Do a Cardio-Strength Workout
When the majority of people workout for weight loss, usually it’s a cardio workout or at least it’s predominantly cardio. This thinking can cause you to miss a golden opportunity to help you get to your weight loss goal.
Most people don’t add strength training or enough of it to their workouts. Your strength training workout should be right up there with your cardio.
Why? Think about it…
If a muscular body is able to burn fat better, well, doesn’t it make sense to increase the amount of muscle you have to help you burn fat?
So, by all means, you need to incorporate serious strength training into your workout to increase the amount of muscle you have. Don’t worry, you don’t have to go out and get a gym membership.
You can add a strength training workout to your exercise program by using your own body weight if you don’t have any type of free weights, dumbbells, or bands already. You can get an excellent workout this way.
As a matter of fact, you can get a cardio and strength workout at the same time by simply doing a circuit bodyweight workout. Trust me, if done right, you will be breathing as hard as you would with any cardio workout you’re doing, and you’ll also be getting toned.
The basics of the workout is to do an upper body exercise and then go immediately to a lower body exercise, alternating repetitions with no rest in between.
For example, you would do 10 pushups then 10 lunges 3 times. So pushups, lunges, pushups, lunges, pushups, lunges, then 1-minute rest and go to 2 new upper and lower body exercises. And, if you treat each pair of exercises as a set, then you would do about 4 or 5 sets. That means you need about 8 or 10 bodyweight exercises.
